Another 80MW power transformer installed in high-altitude substation “Udokan MMP”

On August 24, 2020 another 80MW power transformer was delivered to the “Udokan MMP” 220/35/10kV substation construction site.

As was noted by German Mironov, General Director of BMC LLC: “The contractor’s specialists of BMU GEM have delivered the power transformer to site, installed it onto foundations in its design position, and started rigging it with related attachments.”

According to him, “in April of 2020 the Company started constructing the second phase of the “Udokan MMP” substation and a second 220kV overhead line, as well as the second high-altitude 146MW substation “Bluzhdayuschy”.

He also noted that development of pits and installation of equipment foundations are being finished on the “Bluzhdayuschy” substation site, installation of earthing network is continuing, and erection of steel structures is next in turn.

At the same time, works are underway on the construction site of the second infrastructure complex phase, most notably “Udokan MMP” substation, to install transformers, shunt reactors, switching equipment, and commissioning works on the power infrastructure facilities.

Over a half of all overhead line posts (double circuit) have been installed along a distance of 23 km from the “Chara” 220kv substation in Novaya Chara village and up to the “Bluzhdayuschy” site.

Launching of the second phase of the “Udokansky” and “Bluzhdayuschy” substations will ensure an uninterruptible power supply for Udokan Mining & Metallurgical Plant operation.

The “Udokan” MMP construction is now supported by the “Udokan MMP” substation (10MW power), commissioned in late 2019 as part of the first phase construction. The overall power of the substation and the second phase shall be 50MW.
